How much does home CCTV installation cost?
Understand what changes an installed price, what a useful quotation includes and how to compare systems fairly.

Home CCTV installation is priced around the property and the job. Camera capability, cable routes, recording storage and installation access all affect the total. WESEC provides a quotation for the agreed design rather than a fixed package price.
Start with the result you need
A useful starting question is: what would you need to see if something happened? An overview of a driveway and a clear view of someone approaching a front door are different tasks. Decide which entrances and areas matter before deciding how many cameras to buy.
Your budget pays for a working installation: cameras, recording equipment, storage, power, cable routes, configuration and a handover. A retail camera-kit price is only one part of that picture. Two quotations with the same camera count can describe very different jobs.
What changes the installation price?
| Factor | What to establish |
|---|---|
| Coverage & detail | Which views need a broad overview, and which need more detail at a particular distance? |
| Cabling & access | How will cables reach the cameras? Are lofts, finished walls, outbuildings or difficult mounting positions involved? |
| Recording | How much storage is included, what recording schedule is planned and what retention assumptions are being used? |
| Equipment & lighting | Are different lenses, night illumination or more specialised cameras needed at some positions? |
| Setup & handover | Does the work include supported phone access, permissions, testing and showing you how to export footage? |
Neat cable management can take time, especially in a finished home. Agree the visible routes and finish before work starts so that a lower quotation does not simply hide a different expectation.
How to compare two quotations
Ask each installer to identify the camera models and positions, recorder capacity and storage supplied. “Four 4K cameras” does not explain the lens, low-light performance or whether the view will be useful at your entrance.
- Check whether the price covers the complete agreed installation, including cabling and configuration.
- Ask what can be reused and whether it will be tested first.
- Check any subscriptions, app licences or connectivity charges for the chosen system.
- Confirm the warranty, handover and aftercare, and identify optional work separately.
It can be sensible to phase a system. Plan the recorder capacity and routes for future cameras now, then discuss which views are most important to install first. Expansion still depends on the equipment and infrastructure selected.
Look beyond the installation day
Cameras need checking after installation: are the lenses clear, are recordings actually being saved and is the date and time correct? Broadband changes can also affect remote viewing. Ask how ongoing support will work.
New WESEC installations include a one-year parts and labour warranty and one free maintenance/service visit after the first year. Ongoing maintenance options start from £135/year for Premium and £175/year for Full Cover, subject to system eligibility and the agreed terms. These are maintenance prices, separate from the installation quotation. Compare the plans and their inclusions.
Help us quote for your home
Send your postcode, a brief description of the home and the areas you want to cover. Mention any existing cameras, accessible loft space or separate garage. Photos or a simple plan help us discuss routes and positions; you do not need to choose camera models first.
The Dunstable installation overview describes one home with six Hikvision cameras, including a 180-degree camera, a wired doorbell and wireless alarm equipment. It is an example of a design for one property, rather than a package or a price benchmark for every home.
