Answer the Right Entrance, in the Right Place

A house, a business reception and a shared residential entrance have different needs. We establish who should answer, whether video is useful and whether a handset, indoor screen or supported phone app is the best fit.

Explore the System Overview
  • Homes: a visitor call at the front door, with a suitable indoor or app-connected answering option.
  • Businesses: reception, delivery entrances or visitor calls routed to nominated staff.
  • Shared entrances: reliable resident calling, door release and an upgrade plan coordinated with occupants and building management.
A suitable visitor route
Plan who receives a call, where they answer and how a visitor is admitted.
Existing wiring assessed
Check cable condition and compatibility before assuming a full rewire is needed.
Door release considered
Where entry release is included, match the intercom to the lock and the door’s operation.

Options Explained Around Your Needs

Straightforward visitor conversation

Audio Door Entry

A practical option when clear two-way audio and suitable door release are the priority. The entrance panel and indoor units need to match the scale of the building.

See visitors and investigate cable reuse

Video & Two-Wire Upgrades

Video can add a useful view at the entrance. Some compatible two-wire systems can reuse suitable existing cabling, but cable condition, distances and topology must be checked.

Flexible answering where supported

IP & App-Connected Entry

Suitable network-connected systems can offer indoor stations, mobile answering or integrations. We check networking, internet dependence, licences and any ongoing charges before specifying them.

Agree the scope before work starts. Your proposal should list entrance panels, indoor units or app users, calling arrangements, cabling, power and any door-release work. For shared buildings, we also agree access to individual units, resident communication and the installation sequence.

How Your Installation Comes Together

  1. Understand Visitor Calls

Agree the entrances involved, who should answer and whether you need audio, video, mobile answering or door release.

  2. Inspect the Existing System

Check cable routes and condition, power equipment, door hardware and any shared infrastructure. Confirm what can be retained before recommending a replacement.

  3. Install & Coordinate

Fit the agreed equipment and complete the required cabling or compatible reuse. For occupied shared buildings, agree access and the changeover arrangements in advance.

  4. Test Calls & Entry

Test calling, audio, video where included, the agreed answering devices and door release. Explain everyday use, user administration and relevant internet or power dependencies.

What This Can Look Like in Practice

WESEC Project

A Wired Doorbell in a Dunstable Home Installation

A wired doorbell formed part of the Dunstable residential project alongside six Hikvision cameras and wireless alarm equipment. It is a confirmed example of an entrance device being included in a wider home security installation.

A doorbell provides visitor calling. Remote unlocking or shared-building entry control are separate requirements that need compatible equipment and a suitable door design.

Can You Upgrade Without Rewiring?

Sometimes. Replacing an older audio system with a compatible two-wire video system may be possible using existing cables. We need to establish cable type, condition, distances, connections and the layout of the building first.

Comelit describes two-wire systems intended for retrofit use. This is an available approach, rather than a promise that every old cable or handset will work with a new system.

Support After Installation

Know How to Use It. Know Who to Call.

Door entry maintenance can include checking call quality, screens and handsets, entrance buttons, power supplies and any associated door-release function. Network and app settings may need reviewing after changes to your broadband or phone.

We explain the installed equipment, the checks you can carry out and when to ask for support. Ongoing maintenance is available for suitable systems within our coverage area.

Your Installation Questions

Can I answer the intercom on my phone?

Some systems support mobile answering. Availability, app licences, user limits and internet requirements depend on the equipment. We discuss these before you commit to a system.

Does a video doorbell unlock the door?

Not automatically. Seeing and speaking to a visitor is separate from controlling a lock. Door release needs compatible equipment and an agreed design for the door.

Can you replace one handset in a shared building?

Only where a compatible replacement is available and suitable for the existing shared system. Handsets are not universally interchangeable; we check the model and infrastructure first.

Will residents lose entry while the system is replaced?

A shared-system upgrade needs an agreed changeover plan. Access requirements, expected interruption and any temporary arrangements are discussed with the responsible person before work starts.

Tell Us What You Need to Protect

Tell us your postcode, how many entrances and properties are involved, and whether this is a new system or an upgrade. Photos of the entrance panel, handset and any visible model labels can help.

We confirm coverage, discuss the requirement and agree any survey or next step before work is arranged. The quotation sets out the proposed equipment and installation scope for you to review.
